Nathan MacPherson

Tax Attorney

Associate Advisor

Nathan MacPherson is an Attorney and Counselor at Law (California) and a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales, has lived and worked on three continents, and represents clients on and has traveled to four continents. Nathan often works from remote locations, such as while visiting clients or researching issues, both in the United States of America and offshore.

Nathan’s practice focuses on federal and state civil and criminal tax defense, including complex income tax and employment classification audits, trust, and offshore/foreign issues, and related white-collar crime such as money laundering, gold, and Bitcoin issues; Nathan is known as an expert at Offers in Compromise (OIC), Installment Agreements (IA), and Currently Not Collectible (CNC) status and regularly handles administrative appeals, Collection Due Process Appeals Hearings (CDPH), and Petitions to U.S. Tax Court. Nathan also defends DOJ suits to reduce tax debts to judgment and foreclose on real property.

Nathan studied law in the United States (Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa), Germany (University of Augsburg Law School), Austria (University of Vienna Law School), Budapest and Prague (via Loyola University College of Law), and England (University of Oxford and Oxford Brookes University). Nathan is fluent in German, conversant in Brazilian Portuguese ( his wife and children are native speakers ), and knows some Spanish.

Nathan spent nearly four years as an associate at the world’s second-largest law firm, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (FBD), in its Frankfurt and London offices. While at FBD, Nathan completely redrafted the firm’s standard form contracts for both cross-border real estate lending and cross-border, ECB-eligible, loan and lease agreement securitization, including “CDO Squared."

Nathan was also involved in the drafting and negotiation of the contracts used by German federal and state finance ministries to bail out German banks that had invested in U.S. sub-prime Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities, representing both the finance ministries and the banks, depending upon the transaction.

Nathan drafted and negotiated to factor contracts and amendments to problematic securitization and derivatives contracts, including an amendment to a $70 billion custom derivatives contract which, without the amendment, could have resulted in the failure of two of the largest banks in the world.

Nathan now uses his finance background to assist small- and medium-sized businesses in resolving their tax issues by improving their overall financial health. Through his relationships with other industry experts, Nathan is able to turn what appears to be a very bad situation – IRS lien and levy, mounting debt – into a golden opportunity to improve long-term financial health.

Nathan appears regularly on national radio, regularly authors articles, and is known as an expert in tax defense, the Constitution, and business strategies.

Nathan’s interests include hiking, mountain biking, sailing, international travel, and Church history. Nathan is a voracious reader of the works of the Founding Fathers and the writings studied by the same, such as those by Blackstone, Locke, and Montesquieu, as well as the Church Fathers.

Nathan’s office is on a mountaintop ridge in North Idaho where he lives with his wife and three sons, whom he and his wife homeschool using the Charlotte Mason and Classical Conversations classical education methods.
